MINDFULNESS & PHOTOGRAPHY

Mindfulness photography is another photography element that I've also discovered during my artistic journey. My version of getting lost in the moment of how I feel. I've been practising Buddhist theory during my creative and therapeutic arts degree course and I researched in western cultures it states that focused attention calms the mind.

I also carry a great belief in compassion for others and myself.I have explored themes on being kind to myself and making pocket moments of happiness for me has had imminent benefits on my state of wellness which in return gives me more time for compassion for others for example a family member or co-worker.

For me theirs no anticipation to take the best shot and upload it to your smartphone and social media accounts. For me, I find my most relaxing moments when I'm outdoors and in nature and walking with my android phone in my pocket ready to capture serenity. For me, It's about taking photos of images of my feeling in the present moment. I feel when I'm in a place of calm I use my android to take pictures.

It could be anything from the silence of the calm water of a canal or lake or a flower and its colour bursting with pollen. The shapes of grass and colours and patterns have a distinct way of changing my evocative responses by using different filters and apps on my phone.

This is a visual tool that aids me to a feeling to emotion and colour. For example, the reds and oranges make me feel warm and sense of clarity and the green and blues bring about peacefulness and calmness. As arts practitioners, we explore colours as a visual representation to associate with a feeling.

Combining the two together with focus and attention and colour shapes brings about a sense of being of peace for me. The more time I spend in my places of calmness the better my mood feels in the presence and I feel happier. I am hoping to explore this further and offer workshops to others who would benefit from attending.
